Question 1

My question is " what are the representation of women within Desperate housewives and Mistresses. How do we account for their similarities and differences?

My first secondary research i found was "Reading Desperatehousewives- beyond the white Picket fence"(edited by Janet Mccabe and Kim Akass) within the college libary. Reading through this book i came across the main points about the representation of women, and the use of comparison with reality Television, and the meaning of relationship with men between the main characters. The first main chapter i read was Janet McCabe's discussion on Character Bree Van De Camp, how she personally feels about the character and who she represents within today's society.
Sharon Sharp discuss the meaning of comparison with other television shows that reveal realistic domestic situations with real people and how "Desperate Housewives" comes across these reality t.v such as "Supernanny" and "Wifeswap".
Sherryl Wilson talks about the Characters Gabrille Solis and Susan Mayer about their relationship with men, i find these chapter's full of personal opinoins, references of characteristic's and situations and they all seem come from a reliable source as no one can publish a book. also the book was published 2006, which means that no one has been able to change quotes or references.

My second piece of secondary research is "Media, Gender and Identity- an introduction" by David Gaunlett. i found this book useful for the use of representation of gender in the past. it
